East Africa includes the countries of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Seychelles and Zanzibar also falls into this region.

The region is renowned for the concentration of wildlife and home to one of the most famous wildlife events in the world - the Great Wildebeest Migration between the Serengeti Plains in Tanzania and the Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya. This spectacle is an annual event that sees two million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebra and gazelle migrating, congregating and travelling along an ancient circular route between the Serengeti and Masai Mara in search water and suitable grass to feed on. The 40km column of wild animals are shadowed by predators like lion and leopard, with crocodile awaiting their arrival at river crossings.

The East African sub-continent offers exceptional safari and beach destinations, with combinations fo these two a very popular vacation option. You will find some of Africa's wildest wilderness area when visiting places like Selous Game Reserve, Ruaha National Park and Mahale Mountains National Park (famous for chimpanzee trekking). The Indian Ocean beaches are tropical and exotic, with coral reefs, islands and white beaches, perfect to relax after an East African safari. Zanzibar, Pemba, Mafia, Seychelles and Mombasa are some of the places to consider for an East Africa beach vacation.

East Africa is also home to Africa's highest mountain - Mount Kilimanjaro. At 5 985m it's the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. Getting to the top of Kilimanjaro may not require mountaineering, but a fair physical fitness level is required as well as a strong will with a positive attitude. To reach the summit is a mental, physical and emotional challenge but worth every step.
