Zimbabwe offers excellent self drive opportunities, even with the political situation and all the negative press it has received over the past decade. The upside is that there are not many tourists and prices are very good compared to other destinations in the region. Combine a self drive holiday with time spent on a house boat on Lake Kariba or do a canoe safari on the Lower Zambezi where you experience the beauty of Mana Pools. |

Zimbabwe is on the road to recovery and is an exceptional self drive holiday destination. It had its fair share of difficulties over the past decade, but as far as travel goes it is generally safe and easy to travel around! Zimbabwe has some of the most spectacular scenery in southern Africa and enjoys one of the wonders of the world in the form of the majestic Victoria Falls.
After years of economic and political turmoil, stability has returned to this jewel of Africa and now is the time to visit before the crowds return.
The main roads are still in relatively good condition, but if you venture off-road you will soon find rain-damaged roads in need of repair (which is what some of us want!). That means you can travel between the major attractions without hassle. Some of these beautiful places include Victoria Falls, Mana Pools, Matopos National Park, Lake Kariba and the Eastern Highlands.
The people of Zimbabwe is friendly and welcoming. Logistically a self drive tour in Zimbabwe is straight forward with the official currency being US$, so fuel, supplies and other general goods are available. |
